Role overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Product Designer to join the Base Operations team. This role requires expertise in geo-spatial technologies, analytics, and machine learning, with a strong focus on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). As a Product Designer, you will create intuitive, scalable, and visually engaging products that bridge complex geo-spatial data with user-friendly interfaces. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and developers, to deliver impactful design solutions.
Key projects for this role include:
- Refreshing application that has interactions between mapping, analytics, and machine learning components
- Working on Generative AI introduction and application integration
- Consolidating reporting and notification views
Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Own the end-to-end design process for geo-spatial intelligence products, from conceptualization to implementation.
- User Research: Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to understand user needs and inform design decisions, with a focus on HCI principles.
- Geo-Spatial Visualization: Develop intuitive interfaces and interactive visualizations that make complex geo-spatial and analytical data actionable and accessible.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product management, engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to align designs with technical and business objectives.
- Prototyping: Create low- and high-fidelity prototypes to validate design concepts and iterate based on feedback.
- Design Systems: Build and maintain design systems tailored to data-intensive, geo-spatial applications, ensuring consistency and scalability. At Base Operations we work with Figma.
- Innovative Solutions: Stay ahead of advancements in geo-spatial analytics, machine learning, and HCI to integrate innovative design approaches into our products.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in product design, with a portfolio showcasing work on geo-spatial, analytics, or machine learning products.
- Geo-Spatial Expertise: Familiarity with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), mapping APIs, and geo-spatial data visualization.
- HCI Focus: Strong background in Human-Computer Interaction, with proven experience designing user-centric, intuitive interfaces.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of data visualization and machine learning concepts.
- Design Tools: Proficiency in Figma.
- Problem Solving: Ability to simplify complex technical requirements into elegant design solutions.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to work effectively across disciplines.
- Preferred: Familiarity with front-end development (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and APIs related to geo-spatial data and analytics.
